Hybrid cars are a future of transportation. The technology combines the best of both worlds: the very high-efficient ICE and electric drivetrain.
Full EVs has their main flaw: they are not environmentally friendly when charged with electricity generated from not environmentally friendly sources, such as: coal, natural gas, diesel and sometimes even hydro electric powerplants. EVs have the overall efficiency of energy conversion less than modern ICE cars, if efficiencies of power generation, power transmission, charging transformation, battery storage taken into account.
ICE cars also have some flaws, for example, when decelerating all the kinetic energy of a vehicle is dispersed, and effectively lost, consuming brake pad material along the way, which is actually a lot more harmful for humans than exhaust gasses of a vehicle. Studies have shown that inhaling brake pad smoke is detrimental for health in multiple ways.
Hybrid cars not only decrease brake pad ware due to recuperation technology, but also are a lot more efficient vehicle overall, not wasting energy while decelerating, and generating energy in the most efficient way right there at the demand with minimal losses. Also plug in hybrids can be charged to rip benefits from renewable sources of electricity.
